The prominent ritual performed at the shrine is Adima.  Those who surrender themselves as the servants of Our Lady Of Vallarpadam perform some form of service.  Usually they follow the example set by Meenakshiyamma who lived a life of a servant by doing menial jobs at the shrine.  So the pilgrims as a symbol of their service clean the church & premises.

     Meenakshiyamma & Child were rescued when they were going to give the first solid food (Rise) to the baby.  Subsequently they had the ritual performed at the shrine of Our Lady Of Vallarpadam.  Now also a lot of parents bring their babies to give them the rise- the First Solid Food - at the shrine of Our Lady of Vallarpadam.

This noble custom is mainly performed on the Feast of Mary - the Seat of Wisdom, which falls in the month of October - November.  The Children are initiated to the world of Letters by priests at the sanctuary of Our Lady of Vallarpadam.  Children are introduced to the world of letters by writing the praises of Jesus - the True Wisdom  and Our Lady - the seat of Wisdom.

The head of the babies are shaved for the first time at the shrine and perform the ritual of Adima.  The belief is that it helps them to have thick beautiful hair.
